A Closer Look: Blissoma’s Moisturizer Collection

Hooray! Today marks my one year blog anniversary and it’s been a very special year for me having this platform and creative outlet with which I can share and discuss all things beauty with you all! It’s also been amazing connecting with others here in the green beauty community and I am looking forward to continuing this project in 2017.

So, what better way to mark this special day than by sharing some of my all-time favorites from a brand that I hold so near and dear to my heart! I’ve written about a couple of Blissoma’s moisturizers before but I recently picked up the last one in the range that I had yet to try thereby completing my own collection, so I’m excited to post a full review on these babies! Blissoma’s line of skin-loving moisturizers has helped to normalize my skin type by balancing oil production/hydration retention, increasing my skin’s healthy appearance, and reducing acne and breakouts. I’m slowly making my way into trying all of their serums (making it one of my missions of 2017!) so stay tuned!

Blissoma is a natural skincare line that delivers real and healthy results in the form of raw, active, herbal healing solutions for the most authentic and honest skincare experience. Each and every product in the Blissoma skincare line is crafted with complex herbal formulas, containing only the most freshly extracted, nutrient-rich ingredients.

Awake was the last of the Blissoma moisturizers that I had yet to try because I wasn’t sure if it would provide enough moisture for my skin type. However, it proved me wrong and has earned its place in my morning routine as a serum/moisturizer combo. I layer Blissoma’s Pure cream on top of everything I apply, so naturally I like to layer Awake with Pure on top for a wonderfully soothing combination that provides just enough moisture/hydration for the morning without leaving my skin shiny or packed with a heavy residue. The fresh herbal tea scent is so lovely and awakening – it perks me right up!

Awake retails for $30 and is available at blissoma.com.

Lift is a lifesaver for dry skin. I occasionally use it alone in the mornings, but I most enjoy it at night as a nourishing + moisturizing treatment that works its magic to reverse daily damage. I have to agree that Blissoma’s herbal blend does wonders for skin tone as consistent use of Lift makes my skin tone much more bright and less dull. This is true to each and everyone of Blissoma’s moisturizers (partly because they are water-based) but they truly are such absorbent products that don’t leave the skin with a heavy, shiny residue. Somehow Lift is entirely nourishing and moisturizing without making the skin look like an oil slick, because this tends to be the case with “heavier” moisturizers. It’s nice to finally have a rich, anti-aging product that is still “wearable” but doesn’t sacrifice in the moisture department. FYI, my mom is 60 and loves this moisturizer for her incredibly dry skin. I would actually recommend this product to every skin type as I think oily skins will still appreciate this product for night use.

Lift retails for $34 (1oz) and is available at blissoma.com.

Peace Evening Calming Creme

What it is —

A light-medium weight moisturizing treatment designed to calm and relieve the skin after a day’s encounter of stresses. It’s also an amazing anti-inflammatory treatment for those dealing with inflammation. The first bottle of Peace I bought had a runny, serum-like consistency (like Awake), but the second bottle I bought which is the one I currently own has a thin, lotion-creme consistency. Despite the differences between consistency it still performs the same in that it provides soothing, nourishing, ample hydration. Most ideal for use as a serum, to be used as a treatment to complement the rest of your routine. Can be worn alone in the day time.

Who it’s for —

Most skin types except for those who are sensitive to essential oils. For those looking to soothe stressed, irritated, inflamed skin.

Key Ingredients:

  • Dulse and Nori Seaweeds, Dandelion Root. Provides restorative minerals.
  • Plantain. Provides mucilage which soothes and aids in healing/repairing.
  • Gingko. Aids in sufficient circulation.
  • Comfrey. Speeds healing and cell turnover.
  • German Chamomile and Blue Yarrow. Soothing.
  • Pumpkin Seed Oil. Rich in essential fatty acids; provides nourishment to the lipid layer and balances hydration-retention and oil production. Safe for acne-prone skins.

Full Ingredients

Infusion of Rhodymenia palmata* (dulse seaweed), Porphyra umbilicalis* (nori seaweed), Plantago major* (plantain), Taraxacum officinale* (dandelion), Lavendula angustifolia*, Water, Butyrospermum parkii (shea) Butter*, Glyceryl Stearate and Cetearyl Alcohol and Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) Seed Oil*, Cocos nucifera (coconut) Oil*, Extracts of Symphytum officinale* (comfrey) and Ginkgo Biloba*, Gluconolactone, Soy Lecithin*, Cannabis sativa (hemp) Seed Oil*, Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E), Euterpe oleracea (acai) Oil, Essential Oils of Lavandula angustifolia, Cymbopogon martinii (palmarosa), Canarium luzonicum (elemi), Boswellia carterii (frankincense), Vetiveria zizandoides (vetiver), and Achillea millefolia* (blue yarrow), Matricaria chamomilla (german chamomile) CO2 Extract, Populus Tremuloides (Aspen) Bark Extract, Xanthan Gum, Rosemary Oleoresin Extract, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Chlorophyllin Grain Alcohol*

Peace is another one in the Blissoma line that I mostly use at night as a way to combat the daily stressors and environmental factors that constantly attack our skin. It’s wonderfully refreshing and soothing on the skin especially after a deep cleanse. I prefer to use it as a hydrating treatment/serum step because of its lightweight texture, so I hit my stressed/irritated skin with Peace, and then hit it with Pure to provide soothing, creamy moisture. My skin LOVES this combo and leaves it slightly dewy and looking incredibly healthy.

Peace retails for $30 (1oz) and is available at blissoma.com

Pure Sensitive Skin Soothing Complex

What it is —

A medium-weight moisturizer designed to soothe skin coping with dryness, allergies, sensitivities, irritations, and reactivity. Has a slightly thick cream texture that acts as a healing, repairative layer on the skin. It has the most subtle scent of all the Blissoma moisturizers. Can also be used as an eye cream.

Who it’s for —

Ultra sensitive, Combination, Dry, Normal skin types. For those who are looking to avoid essential oils as it does not contain them. For those avoiding allergens such as gluten, nuts, grain alcohol, parabens, phenoxyethanol, and common herb allergies. With the inclusion of baobab seed oil, acne-prone skin types might avoid this moisturizer (I want to note neither the baobab oil or shea butter have caused me to break out, though.)

Key Ingredients:

  • Marshmallow and Plantain. Both provide soothing mucilage which also helps to heal and repair.
  • Self heal. Anti-microbial; helps to keep acne at bay.
  • Heather Flowers. Anti-inflammatory
  • Rutin. Strengthens capillaries; reduces inflammation.
  • Pumpkin Seed and Baobab Oils. Provides omega 3 and 6 fatty acids to nourish.
  • Camellia Oil. Antioxidant.
  • Perilla Seed Oil. Another source of omega 3 essential fatty acids. Anti-inflammatory.

Pure is an absolute daily staple in my skincare routine. The marshmallow and plantain ingredients lend Pure a thick texture that allows it to act as a non-heavy layer that truly seals everything in and supplements my skin with the moisture it needs that the previous products may have not delivered. While it sounds like a heavy cream because of its thicker texture, it’s actually perfectly balanced in that it’s not too light and not too heavy. It’s the perfect cream to top off the more “active” moisturizers like Lift, and Peace. It’s also great to layer with Awake if you need extra moisture in the mornings, or during the dryer months.

Pure retails for $30 (1oz) and is available at blissoma.com.

Since phasing out the sole use of facial oils and introducing Blissoma’s moisturizers into my skincare routine, my skin has improved tremendously. When my skin isn’t getting what it needs (unbeknownst to me that was the MAJORITY of my life) it becomes the weirdest skin type of all, dehydrated yet oily at the same time, and with the increased risk of acne because of a compromised moisture barrier. The truth is that many people are not giving their skin a proper balance between hydration and moisture (and they are often using comodegenic oils high in oleic acid, at that). Oils don’t solve trans-epidermal water loss and when used solely in your skincare routine they can actually cause an imbalance between the components that make up the moisture barrier, resulting in damage in the form of inflamed, raw, textured, acne-prone skin. I was one of these people that used to solely moisturize with oils (some of my past reviews show this) and I was on the verge of experiencing the kind of damage that this can cause, and this information is what led me to Blissoma. No longer is my skin dehydrated and oily; it’s healthy, well-fed and balanced and it actually stays that way through out the day. It’s amazing to not end the day with a shiny, oily face that has to overcompensate because I didn’t feed it well that morning. It’s no longer textured, inflamed, and covered in blemishes; my skin has actual clarity and glow! I’m able to use other serums and lightweight facial oils in conjunction with these moisturizers because they have totally normalized my skin type and feed it the balance of nutrition/hydration/moisture it needs.

I highly recommend to explore Blissoma’s collection of moisturizers, serums, and cleansers! There are so many more products from their line that I enjoy and I can’t wait to expand my collection of their products. Samples of each product are available on their site and below I will include a shopping link that will save you 10% on your order. One of my most happiest brand discoveries to have ever made in skincare!
