The biggest thing I’ve come to appreciate about beauty brands in the green beauty space is that many of them support organizations that benefit us, animals, the Earth and land, or in this case, the bees! That is why I’m excited to share the scoop on Marin Bee, a brand that delivers beauty products made with pure and raw honey, in effort to support their very own non-profit, the Planet Bee Foundation. Not only does this brand support a great (and important) cause, these products are just dang good!
Marin Bee’s story: “It all started when Debra and Bill wanted to help spread the word about the worldwide die-off of the honey bee due to Colony Collapse Disorder and other environmental factors. Backyard beekeepers themselves, Deb and Bill began to teach free beekeeping workshops in their community. Soon friends, neighbors, local schools and organizations began reaching out with questions and requests to set up hives. Debra and Bill knew the time was right to take action. They imagined a world where bee hives once again flourished in home gardens as they did in their grandparents’ time. In those days, bees were as much a part of a garden as the flowers and vegetables, and people knew their gardens and their tables depended on the honeybee.”
“With demand for their workshops growing, Debra and Bill launched a nonprofit, Planet Bee Foundation, to foster the next generation of environmental stewards. Planet Bee offers free and low-cost backyard beekeeping workshops and hands-on bee education lessons to schools, nonprofits, community gardens, environmental centers, businesses and communities. Planet Bee’s Adopt-A-Hive Program is recommended by the Environmental Defense Fund and Planet Bee partners include Whole Foods Market, San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco State University, Google, Intel, SAP, Wine.com, Homeward Bound, Education Outside, Bay Area Public Schools, Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project, Expeditionary Learning, San Francisco Parks & Rec, Slide Ranch Environmental Center, vineyards in the Wine Country, The San Francisco Chronicle, & countless backyard beekeepers. Through education, awareness and stewardship, they are on a mission to change the world, one bee at a time. Planet Bee empowers others to do their small part, making one big collective difference in the world.”
What is Colony Collapse Disorder and why is it bad for the bees – and us?
Colony Collapse Disorder is a phenomenon that occurs when the majority of the worker bees in a hive disappear, leaving behind a queen and very few nurse bees to take care of the queen and the immature bees. While this phenomenon has occurred throughout history by many names, it was officially named CCD in 2006 in conjunction with a drastic rise in the number of disappearances of the western honey bee. CCD causes significant losses because many agriculture crops are pollinated by western honey bees. Several possible causes for CCD have been proposed, but no single proposal has gained widespread acceptance in the scientific community. The use of pesticides on crops and other environmental factors are thought to be the biggest contributors to the die-off of the western honey bee. In short, we NEED bees for our gardens and crops, and supporting our beekeepers is one of the most important things we can do to help the bee populations.

Marin Bee Honey Butter
Marin Bee’s Honey Butter* ($18-40) is a deeply nourishing body moisturizer formulated to provide rich, soothing moisture for areas that need it most – such as feet, elbows, knees, and anywhere you can think of. It’s made with shea, coconut, and jojoba with a base of water and aloe so it provides a hydrating element as well and absorbs more easily than most body butters. Honey acts as a humectant that draws water to the skin for long lasting hydration. For scent, their essential oil blend is subtle and has hints of lavender and citrus.
This has been a great night treatment for my terribly dry heels and elbows – it’s rich but never greasy as it absorbs really well. Highly recommend to try this body butter!
Offered in 1.5oz and 4oz sizes.

What I love about this shave cream is that it rinses really easily from my razor making the shaving process much quicker. I’ve been a life long user of hair conditioner as my shave “cream” and those days are over! Yay for faster showers!

Marin Bee Lip Repair
Say hello to my new favorite lip balm! Marin Bee’s Lip Repair* ($26) contains a blend of nature’s best moisturizers to soothe and condition the lips. This juicy pink-hued gel also delivers a high gloss finish for supremely luscious lips! In this glossy gel you’ll find a blend of oils, butters, honey, pomegranate and beeswax that feels incredibly nourishing on the lips without the stickiness.
Lately my lips have been looking *very* juicy and pillow-y soft. A lip balm in loose form, such as this gel, allows you to really massage and work it into the lips to moisturize any chapped flakes. I really can’t say enough good things about this Lip Repair, do yourself a favor and grab a tube!
Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Beeswax, California Wildflower Honey, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Sterols, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Mica, Iron Oxides
In addition to the three products I shared, Marin Bee also offers a Honey Polish scrub and a Detox Masque made with clay, pumpkin, and oatmeal. I’m really impressed by the well-balanced formulas of their body products and it definitely means something that I’ve found a new favorite lip balm out of this line! I’m grateful to MB for the chance to try their amazing honey based skincare and I can’t recommend it enough.
