B-l-o-o-m-i-s-s: A word that encompasses a (blooming) beautiful woman (miss) when she is striving to be her very best…
Bloomiss Naturals, a Canadian aromatherapy and skincare + beauty line founded by the lovely Crystal, was created and inspired by two specific reasons: her love for natural and organic products (trying to eliminate toxic products from her daily life) and for the calming effect that creating and making had on her. Crystal struggled with infertility and the stressful emotions that come along with it and says that having a Type A personality has her in a mode of “go, go, go” with never being able to shut her mind off, so the creation process and her actual aromatherapy products themselves have been a big change on her life. Bloomiss offers a decent selection of skincare and body care including day and night moisturizers, a serum, a face mask, body lotions and scrubs, super pretty lip glosses, and range of aromatherapy rollerballs.
Crystal’s PR reached out to me to ask if I’d like to try any three products from her line (my choice of which) and today I’m reviewing my three picks! Speaking of her PR, I have to give a shout to them! Fair Skin Media was founded by my good friend and fellow blogger Angie Lalonde of the Whipped Green Girl blog and she is doing some incredible things for small clean beauty brands and for her fellow bloggers. She’s an incredibly supportive and welcoming person here in our little green community and I couldn’t be prouder of what she’s doing over there. Way to go, Angie!
Before I divulge on the skincare goodies — be sure to check the bottom of this review for details on a Bloomiss mask giveaway I’m doing on Instagram!
Bloomiss Naturals ‘Blooming Regeneration Cream’ ($27 USD / $35 CAD) Bloomiss’s answer to a rejuvenating night cream! This cream contains retinol (also known as vitamin A) which is clinically proven anti-ager: it boosts collagen production, increases the speed of cell turnover, reduces the appearance of pigmentation, and helps unclog pores. This regenerating cream also contains antioxidants which treat + protect the skin against UV damage and free radicals that age the skin.
I use this cream at least 4-6 nights a week as the last step in my skincare routine. Once or twice a week I use a Vitamin C serum that is acid-free and retinol-free (MOSS Skincare’s Illumina) which is not to be used with other exfoliators, so on these nights I will skip the regenerating cream. Prior to using this cream I wasn’t often using traditional moisturizers (I like hydrating serum + oil emulsions these days) but after using this I realized how much I missed the nourishing + softening feel and finish of a good night cream. What I love most about this cream is how soothed and comfortably moisturized my skin feels after I apply it and I wake up with baby soft skin! Combined with a full routine of products, this moisturizer feels somewhere between light to medium weight, but closer to the medium range since I wouldn’t describe it as very rich or heavy. It doesn’t have any added scent and would describe it as neutral smelling. I would definitely recommend to try it if you’re in search of a good night cream that’s affordably priced and I think that sensitive skin types would get on well with this.
Bloomiss Naturals ‘Blooming Peptide Eye Gel’ ($27 USD / $35 CAD) A hydrating eye gel treatment designed to revitalize + firm eye skin and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It contains peptides which are made up of amino acids (found naturally within our skin and bodies) and they are thought to boost collagen and elastin, helping support skin function and to keep skin firm and youthful. This eye gel also contains humectants for long-lasting hydration, licorice (brightening), MSM (supports collagen production and anti-inflammatory) and periwinkle (supports circulation).
I’m currently dealing with an eczema flare-up around both of my eyes and while it’s not severe or very itchy, it does feel irritating and the patchy areas are really prone to dryness and dehydration right now. Suffice to say with all its hydrating qualities, I love to load up on this eye gel when I use it in the morning and night! The cucumber hydrosol, hyaluronic acid, and sodium PCA in it have done wonders to keep my eyes soothed and hydrated and it has reduced the appearance of dry flakiness as well. Gels are known for having a more “dry” finish than eye creams so if you are particularly dry you may want to layer it with something more moisturizing. I find that the finish is what gives the skin a temporary firm feeling and appearance, which is ideal if you plan to wear makeup as well. I’m really loving this eye gel and I think those that like to go light for Summer with their skincare would get on well with it!
Bloomiss Naturals Charcoal Purifying Masque ($20 USD / $25 CAD) Bloomiss’s charcoal purifying masque is a deep cleansing treatment formulated to clarify the skin and decongest pores, transforming a dull complexion into a brighten, radiant one. Included is Kaolin clay, a white cosmetic clay that purifies but is still rather gentle. Bamboo charcoal decongests + detoxifies while Vitamin C and MSM brighten and even skin tone. Ingredients like aloe, glycerin, coconut oil, and shea butter replenish the skin with moisture to leave it hydrated and plump. Spices like clove and cayenne stimulate circulation and blood flow to leave the skin with a healthy pink complexion and a small amount of pumice is included to provide light exfoliation as the mask is rinsed off.
Masking with a clay mask that is “pre-mixed” as I call it – one where water and other emulsifiers and preservatives are already added – is a very different experience compared to masking with a powder version where you add your own water or base. Pre-mixed ones will usually contain moisturizing ingredients that replace what moisture was lost during the masking process, while powder versions mixed with just a medium of water tend to be quite drying. Even my favorite purifying masks strip my skin more than I’d like. This mask does the opposite – its moussey consistency contains a blend of moisturizers and humectants that soak into my skin and after the mask is rinsed off it leaves behind a light amount of conditioning. It does contain a physical exfoliant of pumice granules which feels a little bit like sugar or salt but less sharp, but it’s a very small amount and isn’t concentrated in these scrubby bits. After gently massaging the mask off the light bit of exfoliation it provides leaves my skin SUPER soft, especially with the moisture it leaves behind. I also love the eucalyptus and juniper scent! It’s light and a little spa-like with its fresh scent. If you avoid clay masks because you find them too drying or stripping, I have to recommend to try this one!
