December Boxwalla Beauty – A Brief History of Timeless Things

Nothing makes you realize how fast time flies by like receiving subscription boxes! In this case it’s bi-monthly, but I can’t believe I’ve been trying out and reviewing the Boxwalla beauty boxes for one whole year now. Today, I’m bringing you their final beauty box of 2017!

Themed “A Brief History of Timeless Things“, the December Beauty Box* ($134 value) features 3 products, each a portal to travel through time and space, with ingredients that have been a part of ancient cultures. December’s excellent beauty product selection includes a golden sun-infused facial oil from Lepaar, a lotion-y eye serum from Dafna’s Skincare, and custom size coconut wax-based candle from Rebel & Mercury. Each of these products tells stories that began at least 5000 years ago. The last beauty box featuring H is for Love was my absolute favorite of this year, but this one is hotly coming in second. I’m a sucker for rich green beauty luxuries and I was really excited to experience new-to-me brands this go-round.

Before I dive in, I have to mention that this box is still available as a one-time purchase! With a lot of subscriptions, once the subscription window has passed there’s no chance of being able to experience that box. However, after Boxwalla’s subscription window has passed, they make one-time boxes available for purchase at a cost of $10 more than the subscription price, but the value is often twice the cost and it’s a great option to get a “feel” for Boxwalla without the commitment if you so desire. Grab a one-time December Beauty Box for yourself, or as a (belated) holiday gift for a loved one at $59. Also, you can now gift 2, 3, or 6 cycles of one-time boxes – once you purchase, you are done and do not have to auto-renew.

What you need to know about Boxwalla: To put it simply, they like to fill boxes with things that MUST be experienced. Boxwalla is a bi-monthly subscription box service that showcases artists and artisans from around the world giving the subscriber a choice of four different interests to choose from: The Beauty Box, The Food Box, The Film Box, and The Book Box. Each box is curated with context in mind and with a story to be told, each one delivering a beautiful sensory experience. Green beauty lovers will appreciate that they have high standards when it comes to ingredients and that they actually use, love, and enjoy the products they feature. Boxwalla typically features 2-4 products including both full and generous deluxe travel-sizes. Their beauty box rings in at just $49.95 every other month, with each box valuing well over the price tag.

Lepaar 24K Precious Face Oil

_10ml, $60 value

A precious sun-infused composition of 16 biodynamic, organic and wildcrafted botanicals. Mindfully chosen for their regenerating, age-proofing, moisturising, grounding, balancing and harmonising properties. A high performance multi-purpose face oil that not only provides 24hr vitality, energises your skin, bestows radiant glow and helps prevent the signs of aging like no other, but also harmonises our spirit, centres our self and balances our whole being. Absorbs quickly, penetrates deeply.”

Lepaar’s 24K Precious Oil (and precious it really is) is one of my favorite Boxwalla beauty selections of all time. This luxurious multi-purpose blend contains: an olive oil base sun-infused with Tasmanian calendula and Daintree vanilla bean; papaya seed oil from India; pomegranate seed oil from Israel; sea buckthorn fruit and seed oils from Germany; raspberry seed oil; blueberry seed oil; resins of frankincense and myrrh, and cosmetic grade non-nano 24 karat gold from a family owned company in Germany. You heard me right! For a minimal formula, it’s really involved and complex with the context of its history in mind and I really love that about it. I kind of can’t get past that it contains actual gold! All of this combined with its antioxidant rich goodness makes for my favorite kind of oil. In addition to its regenerative and exfoliating properties, it’s emollient and moisturizing for a blend that contains more lightweight oils. The scent: like a delicious, roasted vanilla bean.

She slowly & gently hand grinds the gold for a very long time along with the resins of frankincense and myrrh. Then she makes a gold concentrate and oil soluble extracts of frankincense and myrrh to use in the oil-serum.”

Bottom line: I’m not impressed by most facial oils, but this one has me craving it every day. The quality is really discernible here and I only want the best, most pure stuff that will moisturize, and this is it. It’s pure luxury and I’m going to be enjoying the heck out of it this Winter!

Dafna’s Eye Care is a serum-in-lotion treatment designed to hydrate, moisturize, and reduce the appearances of fine lines and puffiness of the eye area. Ingredients often used in Ayurveda are included in this lotion in both traditional and new forms to create a uniquely effective treatment.

If you’re like me and your delicate eye area is prone to dryness and irritation, you want soothing products. That’s exactly what this lotion is: the unique gel-cream formula feels like a moisturizer made just for the eye area. It’s hydrating, moisturizing, SO soothing and it gives my eyes a feeling of comfort and relief. Beyond how it feels, it has a plumping effect that leaves my under eyes more bright and supple in appearance. I can definitely see the immediate anti-aging benefits (even if temporary) but products like this can really make a difference in the long run when you keep your eyes properly moisturized. The performance of this eye cream has definitely exceeded my expectations and given that I’m a stickler for the right eye product, it means something for me when I actually like it!

Rebel & Mercury ‘Cinnamon, Nutmeg & Clove’ Candle

_1oz custom travel tin, $8 value

#1 most popular scent and full of warm and spicy notes like Cinnamon, Clove, a touch of Cardamom and topped off with lots of Sweet Orange.

Rebel & Mercury’s candles are made only with 100% natural essential oils and absolutes in a blend of proprietary coconut wax and beeswax – free of soy and palm. Boxwalla chose the Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Clove scent that is entirely warming, spicy, and delicious with notes of sweet orange. I’m actually not the biggest fan of cinnamon, but Rebel & Mercury has included it in a blend that makes it so much more than just a spice-y cinnamon scent. It subtly fills the room with warmth (natural candles aren’t always strong), but I’m loving it and it at least gives me the illusion that Winter is here despite these upper 70s temperatures!

To conclude on my full year of experiencing all that Boxwalla has to offer: Although my scope in subscription boxes from other brands is limited, I wholeheartedly believe that this is the best subscription box service out there. In this whole year of 6 boxes, I’ve only had a few products that wound up being duds, but there wasn’t a single box that I didn’t look forward to and the product selection is always out of this world. The subscription specs (affordable and bi-monthly) and theme/experience are among my favorite things about this box. Lavanya takes us on a journey with each and every box and I love that it makes me more excited and open to learning about the featured products. If you’re in the market for discovering green beauty luxuries, I would look no further than Boxwalla!
