February Boxwalla Beauty Box Reveal ft. H IS FOR LOVE + OLO

If you have been with me since the early inception of my blog, you might have an inkling of how thrilled I am to bring you this review! Boxwalla is back at it again this month with a top-notch beauty box featuring H IS FOR LOVE – one of my all time favorite handcrafted, thoughtful, premium-quality skincare brands, and One Love Organics – a certifiably clean beauty brand that crafts products from the heart, and happens to be one of the big dogs in the green beauty market.

The goods on Boxwalla: To put it simply, they like to fill boxes with things that MUST be experienced. Boxwalla is a bi-monthly subscription box service that showcases artists and artisans from around the world giving the subscriber a choice of four different interests to choose from: The Beauty Box, The Food Box, The Film Box, and The Book Box. Each box is curated with context in mind and with a story to be told, each one delivering a beautiful sensory experience. Green beauty lovers will appreciate that they have high standards when it comes to ingredients and that they actually use, love, and enjoy the products they feature. Boxwalla typically features 3-4 products including both full and generous deluxe travel-sizes.

The theme of February’s Beauty Box* is Secret Garden – a place filled with the sweetest of nature’s gifts. There’s also an underlying theme of “love” which is highly appropriate for February! In this month’s box we’ve got 3 full size products: two incredibly delectable goods from H IS FOR LOVE: the BARA Balm and Lip Glacé in “Root & Berry”, and an anti-aging elixir of a serum from One Love Organics. This box rings in with a superb value of $162, just for the price of $49.95!

H IS FOR LOVE BARA BALM

What it is — “BARA BALM is our answer to skin in need. Sometimes skin needs a little extra to soothe and protect. BARA is formulated to take moisturizing to another level. Each ingredient has been chosen to soften skin, absorbing quickly, leaving your face with an ultra sheer layer of protection against environmental assault.”

Now, back to that part where I mentioned I’m so thrilled to share this review, and it’s because of this brand! If I could leave this paragraph empty I would because BARA leaves me speechless. Prior to receiving this full size jar I had sampled Bara many a time in the last year and each time it was love at first sight (or scent?) all over again. Firstly, the scent. My GOSH. Chinese Rose and Vanilla co2 combine to create this sweet, but sophisticated scent that is highly addictive. When not able to continuously apply it to my face, I enjoy using it as a solid perfume balm applied to the wrists -repeatedly- through out the day. Secondly, the amazing performance. Boxwalla describes it as pressed sunshine in a jar and this couldn’t be a more apt description. It’s just this gorgeous, sun-hued melty cushion of herbal-infused oils designed to deliver soothing, plush moisture without ever weighing the skin down. It’s emollient and quickly-absorbing, almost making you forget it was originally a balm! Although the word balm tends to ring “heavy” or “thick” in the minds of some, the ratio between oils to viscosity-increasing ingredients in this balm is more rich in the former, turning it into a product that sinks into the skin like an oil moisturizer, while still adding a soothing and protective element that you expect from a balm. It works great as a spot treatment on post-acne or dry patches, or entirely on its own as a moisturizer, and I also enjoy using it last in my evening skincare ritual for added moisture and to make sure everything is locked in. A double dose of this good stuff gets applied around my nostrils for the best aromatherapy!

Ingredients —

Jojoba oil*, Macadamia nut oil*, Apricot kernel oil*, Pomegranate seed oil*, Shea butter*, Tamanu oil*, Beeswax, Sea buckthorn oil*, Mixed tocopherols (Non-GMO Vitamin E), Marshmallow root*, Calendula*, Chamomile*, Lemon balm*, Essential oils of: Chinese rose, Vanilla ‘total’ CO2, Frankincense, Lavender*
*Organic

BARA retails for $70 (1 oz) and is available at hforlove.com.

H IS FOR LOVE LIP GLACé

What it is — “Lip Glacé is a universally flattering rose-colored gloss. Its tint is derived from berries, roots and flowers and completely void of mica, iron oxides or mineral pigments. Highly regenerative sea buckthorn CO2 lends a touch of red clay color to the mix. Virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil creates a matte look in the pot, but once warmed by your lips it becomes glossy (glacé!)”

Another favorite from H is for Love and one that I’ve already had in my makeup collection for some time – Lip Glacé is a perfect, effortless option for any pair of lips! I will go ahead and admit it – this is my favorite lip product of all time. I don’t do lipstick or gloss and while I like to think that I’m into tinted lip balms, the reality is that after I wear them a handful of times I give up on the idea because there is no color and finish out there that looks as natural as I want. Then H’s lip glace was invented and changed my life! I have really pale lips (like, they nearly go white if I don’t rub them together) and this glace enhances my lips like no other. It delivers the most natural-looking, sheer rosey-red flush that melds with the lips while topping them off with a glossy finish that is never sticky, never tacky, but works over time to keep the lips hydrated + moisturized for as long as you are wearing it. I would even go as far to say it out-performs their Lip Conditioner in how well it moisturizes! Bonus: it has a soft, peppermint scent with a hint of vanilla. If you’re like me and you don’t do lip color out of fear that everything looks unnatural on you, TRY this one.

Ingredients —

Castor bean oil*, Olive oil*, Coconut oil*, Beeswax, Mixed tocopherols(Non-GMO Vitamin E), Alkanet root*, Elder Berries*, Calendula*, Bilberries*, Hibiscus*, Essential oils of: Peppermint*, Sea buckthorn CO2*, Vanilla ‘Total’ CO2*, Rosemary antioxidant CO2*
*Organic

Lip Glacé retails for $17 and is available at hforlove.com

ONE LOVE ORGANICS ‘LOVE SPRINGS ETERNAL’ YOUTH PRESERVATION SERUM

What it is — “This luxuriously lightweight oil boasts some of Mother Nature’s most effective (and clinically proven) gifts: Blue Seakale, a marine plant, to soothe and revitalize; and protein-rich sea algae, to deeply moisturize for improved skin tonicity and firmness. Green tea, watermelon and jasmine oils easily absorb into skin for a super effective nighttime boost of emollient moisture. At the heart of this restorative elixir, Barbary Fig Plant Stem Cells and D’Orientine S, a botanical active extracted from date seeds, display strong youth preservation properties and help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.”

I will admit that One Love Organics was never a brand that particularly stood out to me, but my outlook has changed after experiencing this serum! Oils of green tea, meadowfoam, and watermelon, along with the marine extracts and date seed + barbary fig, combine to create this high quality, jasmine scented lightweight serum. It’s so unique to me in that although it’s mostly formulated with oils, it doesn’t feel like an oil based serum in terms of its performance and consistency. It has this silky slip to it that’s reminiscent of a water-based serum and it also performs like one leaving my skin hydrated and quite dewy. It also plays well with other products in my routine, still allowing me to use other oil based products without becoming too heavy, such as combining it with Bara which I have done every night since receiving this box. I just received this serum less than a week ago at the time of writing this post so I can’t comment extensively on results, but the anti-aging science behind the date seed extract sounds quite promising and I am looking forward to seeing what results it may bring! In the mean time, immediate results are fantastic and I am enjoying the appearance of healthy hydrated skin.

Ingredients —

camellia sinensis (green tea) seed oil*, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, citrullus vulgaris (watermelon) seed oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride (and) phoenix dactylifera (date) seed extract, alaria (algae) esculenta extract, crambe maritima (blue seakale) leaf extract, opuntia ficus indica (barbary fig) cell extract, jasminum officinale (jasmine) extract, tocopherol

Love Springs Eternal retails for $75 (1 oz) and is available at One Love Organics and The Detox Market.

This is my second Boxwalla beauty box to experience (with thanks and gratitude to the lovely Lavanya at Boxwalla) and they have knocked it out of the park again with the beauty picks this month. I resonate so much with this month’s theme because The Secret Garden book is one of my childhood (and even into adulthood) favorites – I actually have a velveteen covered edition of it! This month’s picks truly deliver the theme’s aspects of nature’s most wonderful gifts and I’m still amazed by the founders ability to choose such items that are simultaneously different, yet similar at the same time. Unfortunately, this box is now sold out! Many are catching on to the magic of Boxwalla and these boxes are selling out fast. However, I highly encourage you all to explore these products individually!

April’s box is already in the works so snag one while you can! Hint: It will be featuring a super special face mist that comes in a certain purple box. 😉

Subscribe before March 20th to receive yours and keep your eye on Boxwalla’s Instagram for hints on the next box’s theme!
