Green Beauty Journal | June ’16

June was a special month for me because it marked my blog’s half-year anniversary (June 18th to be exact!) and with my small successes I’m excited to see what lies ahead for it in the future to come. In the mean time I continuously strive to improve my writings and I hope to really come into my own style and aesthetic.

My Green Beauty Journal posts are month-end collectives consisting of favorites, empties, new products, and more from the past month. Read on to see what’s new, what I’ve been loving, and what I have used up and repurchased!

I got to sample the whole Okoko Cosmetiques skincare line courtesy of their Instagram giveaway and La Boue de Beaute (the beauty mud) brightening clay facial mask became an instant favorite. It brightens, it exfoliates, it rejuvenates, it’s everything! I have since used up my sample and as part of the giveaway winners were allowed to pick out a full-size product of their choice. Guess what I picked! See it at the top of the page in its full-size jar glory! Read my experience on sampling the whole Okoko Cosmetiques line here.

Much of the time I stick with wearing only my RMS Beauty Buriti Bronzer as something to give my cheeks some color, but after getting to sample the Tata Harper Volumizing Lip & Cheek Tint in ‘very vivacious‘ (pictured right in above photo collage) I’ve enjoyed wearing it this past month, as well as my Au Naturale Lipstick sample in ‘Innocence‘ (pictured left) as a cream blush. Very Vivacious is a pretty pop of coral with great pigment and wear, and Innocence is a soft pink nude lipstick that has a balm texture. The sample is perfect for wearing as a cream blush!

These are both favorites, and one of them being brand spankin’ new as well, but I adore the HEAVEN Body Oils. I mentioned in Monday’s Summer Essentials post that my lovely friend, and HEAVEN creator/founder, Taylor Foster, gifted me with full size bottles of both the original Relax & Unwind which I gushed about in my review of her whole skincare range here, and her brand new LACE Body Oil. Lace has been my sweet and feminine companion for the summer, described as sexy with an edge – it’s vanilla with woodsy notes. These body oils are rich and leave the skin deeply moisturized and silky. Essential oil connoisseurs will LOVE these!

It took me a few months, but I finally finished my Zabana Essentials ‘Coconut’ Sugar + Salt Body Scrub. With coconut sugar, sea salt and coconut shell powder this one will give you a deep scrub and leave the skin feeling conditioned with its moisturizing oils. You get a decent amount of product in this tub so it’s a big plus for this scrub. I will definitely come back to this one in the future, perhaps in a different scent.

I should have thrown this one out months ago, but I finished up my tube of the Juice Beauty Lash Defining Mascara. Read my full review on this mascara here. While this mascara gave my lashes a soft natural look and it didn’t smudge/flake on me, I was unimpressed upon finishing this tube. I also had issues with the packaging itself as I’ve read many others have, so I will not be repurchasing this. I believe it’s been discontinued anyway with the release of their new phyto-pigments line.

I picked up the Lila Botanicals Cleansing Oil in the middle of May and knowing this bottle was 1oz I should have realized how quickly I’d finish it! I’m going to post a full review on this cleansing oil soon so I will reserve my opinions for later. I will go ahead and say because of it’s size + price + how quickly I used it up I will not be repurchasing it, but it actually was a really lovely and effective. Stay tuned for my thoughts on this cleansing oil soon!

I used up my first ever bottle of the Kahina Giving Beauty Argan Oil and have already purchased a replacement. Easily my favorite facial oil ever! It’s an amazing multi-tasker and I love it for basic facial moisturizing as well as mixing with a water-based cream/lotion. I believe it’s the one clean and green beauty product every person needs in their arsenal. Read my full review on this amazing product here and learn about the Kahina difference and why it’s one of the best argan oils on the market!

I’ve already used up another pair of my newly favorite Andalou Naturals Brilliant Shine Shampoo and Conditioner (I’m on my third set so far) and I am 100% happy with this duo. They leave my hair so freshly clean (clarified but not stripped or dry), giving it a bit of volume and shine but my hair is completely frizz-free. The super light citrus scent is also great because it’s nice to have hair that just smells…clean! If you have fine, thin hair you will love this duo. I have a medium type hair (it’s not thin, but it’s not thick and curly) with a light wave and this duo works perfect for my hair type. I highly recommend to check out Andalou Naturals if you’re in need of affordable, clean hair care! Pick this duo up on iHerb and save $5 on your first order by using the shopping links above, or apply code FPK255 at checkout!

This does it for June – See you at the end of July for another look into my green beauty journal!
