Juice Beauty Lash Defining Mascara

I’ve been on the search for a new clean mascara for some time now and came across the Juice Beauty Lash Defining Mascara. It seemed to have good reviews (minus some reviews about packaging problems that I also experienced) and is less expensive than other natural mascaras ($19) so I had to make the purchase! It has one of the better and clean ingredients list that I’ve seen compared to other mascaras and it’s always a big plus when a product contains certified organic ingredients.

How it worked for me +

Although my lashes need more volume than length, I don’t buy mascaras based on whether they are lengthening or volumizing. In my opinion, mascaras aren’t going to lengthen your lashes anyway. Mascaras meant to lengthen will coat and separate your lashes but I don’t see that it lengthens them in any way. With that said, I purchased it expecting this mascara to give my lashes a natural look and it did just that. One coat gave them a very nice and natural separated coated look as if I just had my eyelashes tinted darker. Two coats actually gave them a bit of volume and I think that if you let the mascara dry on the wand for a bit before applying you can get more volume out of it.

My lashes are a little bit long (not super long, but not short and sparse if you know what I mean) and they point straight down so I naturally have an issue with smudging due to my eyelashes hitting my upper cheek and rubbing off onto my under eyes when I blink. I was surprised to find this mascara didn’t smudge at all! When I used conventional mascaras I always had to go for waterproof formulas but this being natural and not water proof, and not smudging, was so surprising. It didn’t flake off onto my under eye area either.

The formula itself is perfect to me – it’s not too wet or dry and it doesn’t clump while applying. The wand is a great size and not too large – it’s easy to apply on both the top and bottom lashes. However, it could use a new style of bristles. It feels really outdated and that cone-y tapered wand does less for the lashes as opposed ones like silicone wands, or just ones with a different shape of bristles. I’m not sure what the tube is made out of (it almost feels like a plastic emulating aluminum or some kind of metal) but it has a nice heft to it, most of that being in the cap/wand part of the tube.

One MAJOR issue I had with this mascara is that the stopper right in the opening of the tube came out and lodged itself into the cap. When the stopper comes out, the bristles and plastic part of the wand are loaded with mascara and your only way of using it is to scrape off as much as you can off the bristles. The one time this happened to me, no matter how many times I put the wand back on and off to get the stopper back in there it wouldn’t budge. For whatever reason, the next day when I opened it up the stopper was back in place and I haven’t had this issue since. Many other customers have had this exact same issue so it shows there’s a major flaw in their design or manufacturing. I’m lucky that I haven’t (yet) experienced this problem of the stopper coming out of the tube again but because of this I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing it unless this issue is fixed.

Overall, I really liked the performance of this mascara, the packaging is so nice, and Juice Beauty is such a great brand ingredients-wise, but the huge dysfunction with the stopper in the tube is a bit of a deal-breaker to prevent me from repurchasing in the future once this one is used up. PLEASE fix this issue Juice Beauty!
