Tell me a story under a Marula tree
Tell me a story of luxury.
Flowers float in an African breeze,
When they touch your face, the worries cease.
Tell me a story under a Baobab tree
Tell me the story of eternity..
Light as a feather, filled like the sea
With wisdom from future, and history.
Tell me a story of nature, of science,
Tell me a story of both combined.
Slowly I sip from this salubrious story
Softly it whispers, ‘Lean on me’.
As beautifully written above by Lavanya of Boxwalla foundry, her poem is an ode to the theme of Boxwalla’s August beauty box which happens to be including the efficacious African Botanics! This month, the beauty box is showcasing their Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil*, a product one can truly lean on thanks to its multi-correcting powerhouse of ingredients including marula oil, vitamin C, retinol, essential fatty acids, coQ10, and more.
Eco-luxury skincare collection driven by ancient African phytochemistry and rich botanical pharmacology
African Botanics was founded in 2012 by Julia and Craig Noik whose original home of South Africa and its rich fauna and flora served as their inspiration in creating a plant-based skincare line. They honor and respect thousands of years of traditional African medicinal knowledge which was created from the need to survive and protect the skin from the harsh African environment and climate. Their intelligent formulas combine both science-backed actives and plant-based actives to form high-quality products that deliver real skin-changing results.
If you aren’t familiar with Boxwalla, allow me to fill you in. To put it simply, they like to fill boxes with things that MUST be experienced. Boxwalla is a bi-monthly subscription box service that showcases artists and artisans from around the world giving the subscriber a choice of four different interests to choose from: The Beauty Box, The Food Box, The Film Box, and The Book Box. Each box is curated with context in mind and with a story to be told, each one delivering a beautiful sensory experience. Green beauty lovers will appreciate that they have high standards when it comes to ingredients and that they actually use, love, and enjoy the products they feature. Boxwalla typically features 2-4 products including both full and generous deluxe travel-sizes. Their beauty box rings in at just $49.95 every other month, with each box valuing well over the price tag.
This lovely facial oil will be the one and only product in this month’s box, but it comes at a MAJOR value of $250 (I’m serious) for the low price of each and every Boxwalla box at just $49.95. UPDATE: Subscriptions have now closed, but one-time boxes are now available for $95.
Formulated with ingredients like Vitamin C, Vitamin A (retinol liposome), coQ10, adaptogenic plant extracts, and plenty of oils containing essential fatty acids, this intensive anti-aging oil is designed to correct and restore all skin types that may be in need of a youthful boost. This gorgeous golden-yellow oil blend is lightweight and allows the skin to breathe while it works its magic.
Let’s break down some of these powerful ingredients!
Because of the included retinol, I stick with using it at night to avoid possible UV damage from having more sensitized skin. After cleansing I like to spritz with Amly Botanicals Beauty Sleep* mist and then I combine two drops of Twelve Beauty’s Ideal Moisture Level Serum with 2-3 drops of Fleurs d’Afrique. If my skin is feeling dry I’ll apply Twelve Beauty’s Ideal Brightening Corrective Serum* which doubles as a moisturizer for me, or I’ll use Lost Explorer’s lightweight prickly pear moisturizer**.
While this oil sounds “intense” as the name and ingredient deck suggests, I actually find it to be sufficiently soothing and wonderful-feeling, which would seem to be because of the nourishing oils and calming ingredients like the Immortelle extract. The formula is light and well-absorbing so it doesn’t add ‘too much’ in the way that a lot of rich night-time oils tend to do. Even with its lightness it leaves my skin with a “plush” and soft type of look that indicates my skin is well moisturized and I don’t typically find that I need to apply additional moisturizer on top. It has a rich and intoxicating scent of jasmine.
Since my skin is not exactly mature or dry, I can’t speak as to how well it works in the anti-aging department. At my age I’m using anti-aging products as preventative care and I believe keeping well-moisturized is the biggest factor in avoiding fine lines. Oils such as this one, which keep the skin exfoliated, bright, and moisturized, are definitely equipped at preventing or at least minimizing the onset of signs of aging skin. Since I don’t have wrinkles or fine lines yet, I think that this speaks to my inner health as well as my skincare rituals that I must be doing something right!
Since this oil comes at such a steal in the August Box for practically 80% off, I think this product is worth exploring considering its high quality and range of benefits. If you’ve had your eye on African Botanics, now is the time to jump on this awesome offer! The deadline to subscribe was just extended until August 5th, so this is great news for those who nearly missed out!
UPDATE: Subscriptions are now closed, but one-time boxes are now available for purchase! These are available for individual purchase (meaning no subscription is required) and you will only be billed for this one-time purchase of $95. These are limited, so snag one while you can.
Aaaaand more great news – if you missed out on the June box that showcased MOSS Skincare’s Illumina serum and Beurre Celeste cleansing balm, these two products have been added to Boxwalla’s store for individual purchase at 25% off! You really can’t get these discounts anywhere else, especially with the addition of free shipping. Get Illumina for $108.75 (reg. price $145) and Beurré Celeste for $52.50 (reg. price $70).
