Before I get into the contents of this month’s box I’d like to apologize for not having this review up sooner! I’ve been having issues with media uploads on WordPress and I haven’t been able to get my reviews up in a timely manner, so I’m pretty disappointed that I wasn’t able to share this box before it sold out. The products are still great though, of course, and I always enjoy sharing companies and brands that do charitable work.
If you’re not familiar with how Love Goodly works, allow me to fill you in! Love Goodly is a bi-monthly subscription box service that delivers stylish beauty and lifestyle products – all cruelty-free, vegan, eco friendly, and toxin-free. Each box and product purchase benefits a charity or cause, such as Farm Sanctuary and Cure Cervical Cancer. You’ll usually find 4+ products in these boxes, including both full size and deluxe travel sizes. This box rings in at just $29.95 (every other month), with each box valuing $80+.
Love Goodly’s August/September box* (valued at $88 for the cost of $29.95) featured 5 products – an Axiology lipstick (your choice between 3 shades), a scalp treatment serum, a healing balm, a re-usable stainless steel straw, and a vegan snack – benefiting Farm Sanctuary, our nation’s largest and most effective farm animal rescue and protection organization. October/November subscriptions are already open, so be sure to check out the bottom of this post for more information!
HIPPEAS Organic Chickpea Puffs
HIPPEAS Organic Chickpea Puffs in the white cheddar flavor are DELICIOUS! These puffs are wholly vegan, organic, gluten-free, non-gmo, kosher, and are free of nuts and soy. They’re made with chickpea flour and a blend of other flours, sunflower oil, seasonings and other natural flavors. They have a similar texture to those conventional snacks we know as Funyuns or puffy Cheetos, but the ingredients are so much cleaner. Tastes just like white cheddar popcorn too! Love Goodly picks out the best vegan snacks — I’m still thinking of that LesserEvil popcorn they featured awhile back!
LOVE GOODLY Stainless Steel Reusable Straw
Switching to stainless steel (or glass) straws are the easiest way to reduce plastic usage and plastic pollution! Straws like these are sturdy and easy to clean, and obviously portable — take them on the go with you and request that your servers don’t bring you straws! They’re also really photogenic for Instagram, so ditch the plastic and get one of these. 😉 $3.50 value.
BALANCED GURU organic Scalp Treatment
This Balanced Scalp Treatment from Balanced Guru is a clarifying and balancing serum made for oily scalps, designed to reduce oiliness and promote scalp/hair health and increase shine. Made with a base of alcohol and aloe and includes a host of EO’s like spearmint, rosemary, basil, cypress, eucalyptus, thyme, sandalwood, german chamomile, and myrtle.
Alcohol being the first ingredient can set some alarms off, but in this formula I feel that it is balanced out with the aloe and EO components and it isn’t as drying as straight alcohol. As it pertains to being “balanced” and oil-reducing, I think alcohol might be necessary in a product like this to actually achieve what it aims to do. I’ve been using it on second day hair when my scalp feels the oiliest and I have to say it does a good job at reducing oil just as a dry shampoo would, but with a serum you don’t have to deal with powders and that dry/dull look that you sometimes end up with. Be careful not to apply too much, remember that it still has oils in it and it’s possible to overload on it! Applying it and massaging it in feels great — just place the tip of the dropper directly on the scalp and begin placing droplets all over where you’d like to treat, then while it’s wet massage it in with your fingertips. While it dries it feels a little tingly and fresh from the spearmint, but that subsides once the area is dry. Hair looks and feels cleaner and it smells herbally fresh! $23 value.
Dr. Rogers RESTORE Healing Balm
Dr. Roger’s Restore Healing Balm is a multi-use product made to soothe and repair dry, cracked, and damaged skin. It contains glycerin, a humectant and moisturizer, and castor seed oil + castor seed wax that acts as a protective, occlusive layer. You can use it on severely chapped lips, on closed wounds to promote skin healing, on nails, and or just about anywhere that you could need a protective + restorative balm. It works similarly to any thick reparative balm, such as Vaseline or Aquaphor, but with plant-based ingredients. I have a sassy cat – with claws – which means many scratches and claw marks for me on a regular basis, and products like this one help promote better and faster healing. $30 value.
I’ve mentioned before that I’m not much of a lipstick wearer, but when the opportunity presents itself to me I do love to test them for reviews, especially when they are made by sought after brands like Axiology! Axiology’s lipsticks are vegan and made with candelilla wax, avocado oil, castor oil, avocado butter, grape seed oil, coconut oil, elderberry extract, sweet orange oil, and neem oil (all organic oils!) in addition to the pigments they contain. I was surprised by how moisturizing this lipstick feels and how easily it blends. It’s such an easy lipstick to work with and is very forgivable! It feels like more of a really solid and pigmented lip balm, but acts long lasting like a lipstick. I chose to try the shade “The Goodness” which is described as a blush-pink with a creamy finish and has an added dimension of a silver sheen. That’s quite accurate – it’s a muted pink that has a slight sheen of silver, perhaps a little frosty. Axiology notes it’s best for light-to-medium skin tones. I’m a fairly light skin tone and I feel like this shade doesn’t suit me well and that it’s perhaps too mature for me. I think it might suit me better if it didn’t have the silver sheen. It’s incredibly pretty on other lips and skin tones, though. Also, Axiology’s bullet packaging is really neat! $30 value.
While the Aug/Sept box is no longer available, October/November subscriptions are open! Two sneaky peeks: One brand being featured is Pixie Mood, where subscribers will be allowed the option to choose between 3 vegan leather wallet accessories, and another brand being featured is Graydon skincare! The Oct/Nov box will benefit Cancer Support Community Los Angeles to coincide with breast cancer awareness month.
