january_beauty_review

Hai! I hope you had a lovely January with sunny, warm weather like we’ve been having here. This was my birthday month so it’s always a little extra special for me. I also officially started my blog in January so I’m enjoying it and having fun sharing what I love with you! I’m posting on Mondays and Thursdays, so I hope to be consistent with this schedule. Monthly Beauty Reviews will be like my version of monthly favorites. I’ll be sharing both new and old favorites, products I’ve been trying that I didn’t like so much, and I’ll also be giving updates on past products I’ve hauled or have mentioned in a post.

I bought the Acure Organics Foaming Shaving Gel in December and spent most of January using it up. I’ve never actually used a gel or cream meant for shaving since I’ve used conditioner my entire shaving career. I have to say, I don’t think I’ll ever try another one because this one is just that good! All this time I had no idea what I was missing out on in terms of a good, easy and quick shave. This gel foams very nicely and gives the skin a moisturized, soft base that the razor can easily glide across and does not leave the skin greasy afterward. It rinses out of the razor head incredibly easy, which I was not used to having used conditioner all these years because it really clogs up the razor. The packaging it comes in uses an air dispenser, so it moves up within the packaging with each use ensuring nothing goes to waste. Lastly, it smells amazing. The scent is blue chamomile and cucumber, and it smells so fresh and crisp filling up the air when showering. I love it!

I also bought the Acure Organics Cell Stimulating Body Wash around the same time as the shave gel and just finished using it up last week. I use this body wash with a wash cloth and it lathers up quite nicely. I really like the formula of this because it doesn’t completely strip the skin of moisture but it doesn’t leave dirtiness, body oils or any residue behind on the skin. My favorite part: it smells like cherry Dr. Pepper! I have no idea what the intended scent is supposed to be but myself and other reviews on iHerb seem to have the same opinion. It smells so good!

Not Pictured: The One with Nature Dead Sea Mud Soap Bar* – These dead sea bar soaps by One with Nature are some of the best I’ve ever used. This one contains mud and salts from the Dead Sea which are known for their therapeutic effects and for relieving certain skin ailments and conditions. This particular soap smells like cinnamon. It lathers up to a nice lathery cream and it left my skin feeling so cleansed and soft without feeling like it stripped away my skin. It didn’t leave my skin feeling rubbery like you get with most bar soaps which is a major plus for me. One thing I’ve loved about these One with Nature bar soaps is that they don’t clog my upper chest and back skin. I’ve had an issue with clogged pores on bodily skin for some time which I now know is from past shower gels and these bar soaps have gotten rid of any clogged pores. My skin has looked much healthier since consistently using this and it’s a staple in my shower!

updates +

I hauled the Silk Naturals Brightening Concealer in my first post here towards the middle of the month and it has really stood out to me as a concealer. Any concealer will crease on me, even powders such as this but so far I’ve noticed it creases much less than any other concealer I’ve used. I typically use cream ones so perhaps that’s the culprit and I should be looking for powder concealers. It doesn’t exactly give me the best coverage for my dark circles but I like to let flaws shine through, letting my makeup appear more natural. When I finish up this sample I plan on purchasing the full size.

I’m happy to inform you my Juice Beauty Lash Defining Mascara hasn’t failed me again as I mentioned in the review I wrote here. The second time I had used this mascara, the stopper came out of the tube and lodged itself into the cap leaving globs of mascara all over the wand and it was incredibly difficult to get it scraped off. The next day the stopper was back in place and since then (over a month ago) it hasn’t done this to me again. As I mentioned, many other reviews report this same issue so be warned. Performance-wise, I’m still loving this mascara and the natural look it gives my lashes. The biggest bonus is that it doesn’t smudge or flake, which is impressive considering it’s natural and not even waterproof. Juice Beauty recently came out with a new mascara called PHYTO-PIGMENTS Ultra-Natural Mascara and it sounds promising.

Since testing out this PUR Minerals Pressed Mineral Foundation last week I haven’t switched back to any of my old foundations. I’m loving it that much! Being pressed it’s so quick to apply and there’s very little powder fall-out flying around in the air (my lungs are happy :). It gives the perfect coverage without looking too much and makes my skin so glowy. I probably won’t be switching back to my Honeybee Gardens pressed powder foundation anytime soon.

Lastly, I purchased this Tinted Lip Balm along with the Everyday Minerals kit I recently posted about. This one is a part of their re-vamped tinted lip balm line that includes a new design, new shades and a better, more moisturizing formula. I purchased it in the shade Smile which is described as a rich, neutral medium bronze. It’s perfect as an everyday shade and will compliment most complexions. This one, along with the other shades all have light frost finishes. I mentioned that some may find frost to be outdated but I think Everyday Minerals did it perfectly and it compliments the eyeshadows in their line. It smells amazing – very citrusy but it’s a natural and fresh citrus scent. It has grapefruit, orange, and tangerine so I’m not sure which I am smelling the most but I love it! (it’s probably the tangerine 🙂
