October Boxwalla Beauty Review: AFRICAN BOTANICS Le Masque Hydralift Intense

dream a little dream of me”

African Botanics joined Boxwalla this October for another beauty box curation (you may remember their products from last August and October’s boxes) and I couldn’t be more ready to rave about this box because of the immediate and long-lasting results I have seen with the featured product. I meant to get this review up sooner but simply didn’t have the time – however! it means that I had more time to thoroughly test this beaut of a serum from African Botanics and that is always great for you readers!

Themed “Dream A Little Dream of Me“, the October Beauty Box* showcases a product from African Botanics – the Le Masque Hydralift Intense serum – that is perfect for a little bit of daydreaming as well as to nudge you into the sweetest dreams at night. This multi-tasker is an overnight hydrating mask/serum formulated to increase moisture levels, lift, firm, smooth, replenish, and brighten skin. It’s essentially a lightweight but hard-working facelift in a bottle and this stuff WORKS, which I can’t wait to share more on below.

Although subscriptions for this box have ended, it’s now available in the Boxwalla store as a One-Time October Beauty Box! These are one-time non-renewing purchases that don’t require you to subscribe to the box. These of course make for great holiday and birthday gifts as well!

What is Boxwalla all about? To put it simply, they like to fill boxes with things that MUST be experienced. Boxwalla is a bi-monthly subscription box service that showcases artists and artisans from around the world giving the subscriber a choice of four different interests to choose from: The Beauty Box, The Food Box, The Film Box, and The Book Box. Each box is curated with context in mind and with a story to be told, each one delivering a beautiful sensory experience. Green beauty lovers will appreciate that they have high standards when it comes to ingredients and that they actually use, love, and enjoy the products they feature. Boxwalla typically features between 1-4 products including both full and generous deluxe travel-sizes. Their beauty box rings in at just $49.95 every other month, with each box valuing well over the price tag. If supply is available, they will offer one-time boxes after subscriptions close and they also offer non-renewing gift cycles.

AFRICAN BOTANICS LE MASQUE HYDRALIFT INTENSE

INTENSIVE MARINE INFUSION TREATMENT

Retail value: $180
One-Time Box price: $74.95

AN INNOVATIVE SERUM-STRENGTH INTENSIVE MASK THAT IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO INSTANTLY INCREASE MOISTURE LEVELS, REPLENISH, LIFT, RESTRUCTURE, FIRM, SMOOTH AND ENERGIZE THE SKIN WHILE PROVIDING MITOCHONDRION PROTECTION AND EPIDERMAL REGENERATION.”

What is it? A multi-tasking hydrating treatment that can be used as an overnight serum-mask or as a rinse-off mask. Le Masque brightens, lifts, firms, tightens, plumps, and contours skin. It improves moisture retention, delivers antioxidant benefits, and acts as a second skin for barrier protection and prevention of trans-epidermal water loss. Le Masque is lightweight, never sticky, and fast absorbing with a slightly runny gel-serum consistency. Has a neutral scent.

How do I use it? This treatment is to be used in the PM only. I highly recommend using it overnight to fully reap its benefits! Can be used nightly for quicker and longer lasting results.

  • If using overnight: After cleansing and misting, apply a pea-size amount of Le Masque all over. If following with an oil, take care to pat at least 3 drops all over – do not rub or it will cause the mask to pill. If following with additional water-based moisturizer like a cream or lotion, you can massage it in as it won’t disturb the mask application.
  • As a rinse-off mask: After cleansing, apply and massage in a thick layer on to dry or wet skin. Let the mask rest for at least 20 minutes for rinsing, but the longer the better!

What is it formulated with? Le Masque is formulated with hyaluronic acid of different molecular weights for deeper penetrating hydration; vitamin C (reduces hyperpigmentation, improves skin texture); niacinamide (improves skin texture + reduces appearance of pores); marine ingredients like red seaweed, microalga glucans (counters oxidative stress), and chlorella (supports barrier function); and a combination of algae and thorny shrub form a mesh-like second skin that acts as a protective non-occlusive barrier. Fermented yeast promotes exfoliation and cellular renewal. Also contains aloe ferox, squalane oil, mallow, helichrysum, marula oil, resurrection plant oil, kalahari melon, cucumber, baobab oil, and green rooibos.

FULL INGREDIENTS: Aqua (Water), Squalane, Hamamelis Virginia (Witch Hazel) Extract, Glycerin (Botanical), Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Phospholipids, Glycine Soja Sterols, Stearic Acid, Safflower Oil/Palm Oil Aminopropanediol Esters, Yeast Extract, Kappaphycus Alvarezii Extract, Caesalpinia Spinosa Fruit Extract, Helichrysum Stoechas Extract, Chlorella Sorokiniana Extract, Saccharide Hydrolysate, Butylene Glycol (Sugar Cane), Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula)** Seed Oil, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed F-fucoidan (Laminaria) Algae, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, Xanthan Gum, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Myrothamus Flabellifolius (Resurrection) Plant Oil, Hydrolyzed Candida Saitoana Extract, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Citrillus Lanatus (Kalahari Melon)** Seed Oil, Rosa Centifolia (Rose)* Flower Extract, Cape Aloe (Aloe Ferox)* Leaf, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract, Malva Sylvestris (Mallow) Extract, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab)** Seed Oil, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Aspalathus Linearis (Green Rooibos)* Tea Extract, Cyclopia Genistoides (Honeybush)* Leaf Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol.

MY EXPERIENCE

I’ve had a good ~two months of nightly use with Le Masque and I will tell you that I didn’t even need that much time to see benefits come to fruition – this stuff works FAST and I saw results after just one use. It has far exceeded my expectations – not that I had too low of expectations considering African Botanics crafts some magical products – but so many plant-based products only take your skin so far and I figured that at best it would feel like a nice hydrating layer to include in my skincare routine. It is nice for that, but this stuff is SO much more – it’s legitimately a face lift in a tube and this might be the first time in my blogging years that I’ve been this wow’d and impressed with plant technology.

So what is it actually doing for my skin? Every single thing ticks off in their product claims for me – after just one use I woke up to firmed, lifted, contoured skin and it appeared much brighter and plump. The two marine ingredients that form a mesh and the hyaluronic acid have a way of literally tightening the skin and pulling it together, helping it to appear more lifted and contoured to your natural bone structure. While it literally tightens the skin, I’ve never felt the tightening effect as much as others seem to, but that’s a plus in my book! I have experienced these intense and legit results with every use since that first night – every morning I wake up feeling like I had an awesome facial the night before. I’m also seeing more long-term benefits like the reduction in appearance of pore size and my skin is much less red than it used to be. These results may sound simple in the way that I describe them (as in oh, every anti-aging product makes these claims!) but this is an exceptional product – the results have been real, intense, and super noticeable even after just one use and every time since then.

Also, it’s important to note that I strictly use Le Masque as an overnight serum and I fully believe everyone should use it in this manner for more intense benefits, unless it feels too strong to those who are sensitive (but it’s relatively non-sensitizing).

With Le Masque’s impressive ingredient deck and the way it ACTUALLY works, it’s no wonder that it comes at a hefty price tag of $180. Believe me, it’s worth every penny. However, now may or may not be the only time you can try this magical product at such a discount that’s being offered in the October box. At $74.95 it costs less than half of its full retail price and that’s a really great deal considering the caliber of this product.

I can’t rave enough about this mask and it’s getting a lot of hype among Boxwalla users at the moment – I highly recommend to try it!
