Okoko Cosmetiques Sublime Balm Review

In early November I shared a little sneak peek of the Okoko Cosmetiques Sublime Balm* that was soon to be launched – and now it’s here! I’ve been using this decadent and luxurious balm, released by one of my favorite eco-luxe skincare brands, for a solid month now and I’m beyond excited to go into depth on what this amazing treat is all about.

Okoko Cosmetiques, founded by the beautifully inspiring Oyeta Kokoroko, is a Vancouver-based eco-chic skincare brand that offers results-driven, radiance-enhancing products with exotic, treasure-like ingredients. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to test and review each product in their line thus far, including their exfoliating concentrate, anti-aging oil, and clay facial masks. In addition to addressing the many issues we all experience with our skin (acne, dryness, fine lines, etc) the big selling point behind Okoko is that each product is designed to enhance radiance and bring out our skin’s natural glow – and the new Sublime Balm is no exception!

What it is —

“OKOKO Sublime (melting mask!) balm is a brilliant multi-purpose radiance balm for various issues associated with dry and dehydrated skin. It moisturizes, enhances radiance and gives you baby soft skin! Transformative. Indulgent. Delicious. Our best-selling beauty balm nurtures all skin types for a glowing, radiant complexion. Apply it everywhere to moisturize, repair and protect any dry areas (face, décolleté, hands and body).”

What it’s made with —

The star magic of this balm are three antioxidant ingredients – natural resveratrol, tomato oil (rich in lycopene), and beta-carotene. Antioxidants help to protect cells from damage, making them very beneficial ingredients that will help protect, prevent, and treat signs of aging. The included cocoa butter, cocoa beans, bearberry, and seabuckthorn are more great sources of antioxidants. This balm is also host to many moisturizing ingredients including: mango seed butter, kokum seed butter, camellia seed oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, and more. Amla and turmeric help fight inflammation while bisabolol helps to calm and soothe the skin. Gentle white clay is included to provide cleansing properties when used as a balm cleanser.

This balm contains emulsifiers, so when it is mixed with water it transforms into a milky liquid that rinses off with ease!

Includes sensual notes of vanilla, chocolate, jasmine, orange, and neroli for a delectable rich scent.

How to use it:

It’s all in the name – Sublime is multi-purpose and can be used many ways! This is not limited to just moisturizing different areas of the skin like most balms do – you can literally use this balm as your cleanser, moisturizer, or facial mask! In any way that you use it, Sublime delivers rich, radiance-enhancing, glow-boosting moisture.

Use it as a cleansing balm – Cleansing balms are ideal for your first cleanse at night to remove the day’s grime – simply take a dime-sized amount, warm it between the fingers, and massage onto the face in circular, upward, and outward motions. You can rinse the balm off with water alone, turning it into a light milk that easily rinses away. You can also wipe it away with a warm, damp facial cloth. When I use it to cleanse, I like to leave it on for a few minutes (like a mini mask sesh) after I finish massaging as it leaves the skin super moisturized and plump!

Use it as a moisturizer – Sublime makes for an incredibly rich and radiance-enhancing moisturizing treatment – apply it in a thin layer as the first step in your routine, or apply it last to seal in skincare and to act as a protective layer. Because it’s a thick balm, one option is to thin the balm out with your facial oil of choice (I recommend Okoko’s Les 16 Precieux which pairs beautifully with Sublime) – simple add a drop or two of the oil on top of the balm in your hand, mix between the fingers and apply. My favorite way to moisturize with Sublime is to use it as an eye balm and I extend the application just to the top of my cheek bones and the apple of my cheeks. By extending the application I’m spreading the radiance and glow-boosting goodness where the highlight naturally hits, and I’m telling you it gives the cheek bones MAJOR glow! It’s great for moisturizing around the nose and on dry patches too!

Use it as a mask – There are two ways to use Sublime as a mask! After first using it as a cleansing balm, leave the application on for a few minutes or however long you desire, before rinsing or wiping it away and then continuing on with the rest of your skincare routine. Or, you can apply it to dry, clean skin (like masks are typically used) by spreading (don’t massage too vigorously or it will further cleanse!) a dime-sized amount over the skin. I like to let mine set for a good 15-20 minutes before rinsing.

Okoko’s products always manage to wedge their way into my daily skincare routine as must-have staples and I haven’t been able to go a day without using Sublime in some form or manner. Every time I use Sublime I’m still wow’ed by how glowing and illuminated my skin looks where applied. It delivers such a wonderful user experience because of its richness, decadence, and treasure-like quality. Sublime is a true luxury skincare item in my humble opinion and in addition to discovering Okoko this year, Sublime is one of my favorite skincare finds of 2016! I highly recommend to explore this natural high-perfomance skincare line if you are looking for real results to achieve the best skin you’ve ever wanted.
