What’s In My Makeup Bag | 04.04.16

I’ve been consistently using the same makeup items lately so I felt it was due time for a post on what I’ve been loving lately. What’s in my makeup bag posts are a peek into my latest everyday makeup routine, which also includes some staples that I don’t change. Be sure to check the bottom of this post for a 10% discount on the Root items I’m going to talk about!

I’ve been wearing the Au Naturale Creme Concealer every day since buying it earlier in March and I’m really loving how well it wears on me compared to other concealers, especially under my eyes. It creases so minimally on me and it’s really nourishing without being greasy or too drying. After dabbing it onto my face with a finger, I blend it out using my Everyday Minerals Eye Kabuki brush which is great and fluffy for blending out concealer. For more details on this concealer, you can read my review here.

First, I want to say that it almost feels taboo to mention BareMinerals in a green beauty post. They do legitimately have some clean products, but as for their original foundation it’s typically given a bad light. The reason most don’t consider it to be clean is because it contains bismuth oxychloride. It’s a chemically harmless ingredient, but its crystalline nature can result in allergic reactions (redness, itchiness) for some people. Personally, I don’t experience reactions to this ingredient so I’m perfectly fine with it and I do like the pearly glow that it gives. I like quite a few things about the BareMinerals Original Foundation and it’s a foundation I always come back to. It feels like a really high quality powder that doesn’t have that heavy dustiness that some mineral foundations have (talking more so about ones from indie brands). Their Fairly Light shade is the perfect match for my skintone which for me can be hard to find, and the foundation doesn’t oxidize/change color on me like other mineral foundations have. Also, the packaging is nice and high quality, and I like the lock-sifter on it. To apply it I always use my Sigma Round Kabuki F82, it’s a great brush and it really buffs in the foundation beautifully. It’s a sister brush to the flat top F80 brush which is beloved by many! By the way, if you’re sensitive to bismuth oxychloride and you prefer matte foundations, Bareminerals makes a matte version of their foundation and it doesn’t contain bismuth oxychloride!

To set my BareMinerals I use their Ready Touch Up Veil in translucent which is a pressed version of their mineral veil. I love the quickness of a pressed setting powder and this one truly does keep my face from getting too shiny throughout the day.

For cheek products lately I switch between the Everyday Minerals Girls Best Friend Blush and the Root Rose-Glow Illuminator. The illuminator provides a very subtle glow which I love wearing just on it’s own, and I’ll use the remainder on the brush to apply on all the high points of my face. You can see a swatch of the Root illuminator here and a swatch of the Everyday Minerals blush here.

My highlighter of choice lately has been the Zabana Essentials Glow Stick in Bare Beauty. It’s a very moisturizing balm stick that gives a very subtle glow, and more shine due to the oils in the product. I love the natural glow and shine it gives and it smells sooo good since it contains nectarine extract.

I set my face using the Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin Face Mist just to ensure I don’t look powdery and it provides a little moisturization on top of the makeup.

Eyes +

Since picking up some Root items last month [post here] I haven’t stopped using their loose eyeshadows! Portland is a bronzey brown shade and I love to wear it as an all over shade, with Janessa in the crease. I also wear Janessa as an all over shade on it’s own, which by the way I completely forgot to throw in in the picture. The Tarte Clean Slate Creaseless Eye Primer is the one and only eye primer in my makeup collection so I always use this to prime my lids for eyeshadow. It truly keeps my eyeshadows from creasing and gives them a nice little base to adhere to.

Since picking up the Root 100% Lash Mascara I haven’t once used any other mascara! I absolutely love it and the look that it provides for my lashes. They look voluminous and full, soft, and leaves them flake-free and smudge-free. You can check out my review on this mascara here.

Lips +

I haven’t been wearing any color on my lips lately and have just been opting for plain ol’ lip balms. I’ve been loving the Hurraw! Unscented Lip Balm since picking it up in my last iHerb Haul [here] and I just received the Zabana Essentials Passionfruit Softening Lip Balm in a recent ZE order and have been using it often as well. Both balms keep my lips so moisturized and leave them with that soft cushion-y feeling.

I’d love to know what makeup items you’ve been loving lately!
