Brace yourselves, the much anticipated October Beauty Box from Boxwalla is here! If you’ve been a reader of mine since the beginning, you will know my love for this beautiful brand, H IS FOR LOVE, that Boxwalla is showcasing this month after such a warm first reception to the February beauty box that they were also featured in. Dare I say that this is my favorite Boxwalla beauty box thus far?
This month Boxwalla is showcasing H IS FOR LOVE, a natural beauty brand that prides itself in sharing nature’s most wonderful gifts in the form of pure, organic, handcrafted, wild-sourced premium skincare. The products are minimal, both in formula and in their visual packaging, but they maximize utility by making use of the most potent and beneficial ingredients, often in the form of herbal infusions which are very involved processes. Bee Ham is the angelic woman behind the brand and I highly recommend to follow her Instagram for sneak peeks into how her creations are made!
Themed “Wild Honey“, October’s Beauty Box* is an ode to Fall with its encompassing warmth and earthy Autumnal hues. Once Fall time is upon us I’m personally counting down the days to dreary cold weather, so the luxurious treats in this box are allowing me to hold on to the last days of warmth. The theme is also a reference to creator Bee Ham’s mad genius and busy bee-like work ethic when it comes to her baby H is for Love! This month’s box ($122 value) includes 3 H products: KINU Glowing Skin Balm (exclusively launched with Boxwalla, full-size at 3.4oz), RAPHA Harmonizing Oil Cleanser (custom 1oz size), and Propolis Regenerative Face Mask (deluxe travel .85oz size).
Not familiar with Boxwalla? Let me fill you in! To put it simply, they like to fill boxes with things that MUST be experienced. Boxwalla is a bi-monthly subscription box service that showcases artists and artisans from around the world giving the subscriber a choice of four different interests to choose from: The Beauty Box, The Food Box, The Film Box, and The Book Box. Each box is curated with context in mind and with a story to be told, each one delivering a beautiful sensory experience. Green beauty lovers will appreciate that they have high standards when it comes to ingredients and that they actually use, love, and enjoy the products they feature. Boxwalla typically features 2-4 products including both full and generous deluxe travel-sizes. Their beauty box rings in at just $49.95 every other month, with each box valuing well over the price tag.
Without further ado, let’s dig in…
KINU Glowing Skin Balm
3.4 oz, $90 value
“A decadent, whipped body balm made with a thoughtful mix of rich, emollient and fast absorbing oils like olive, jojoba, coconut and kalahari melon seed, that lend a balanced fatty acid profile & uber skin softening properties. It also contains rosehip CO2, a carrier oil high in carotenoids, Vitamins A and E, as well as all three essential fatty acids. A bit of beeswax seals in all the moisture. A hint of shimmer provides your own secret sunshine. Comforting and evocative, this nutrient-dense indulgence is creamy perfection for fall and winter skin.”
Kinu is THE body product to have for this Fall and Winter. Honestly, it’s going to be perfect year-round, but its warm glowing qualities are going to be particularly lovely for the colder months. Kinu is an oil and beeswax based body balm complete with golden mica to give the skin a pretty glow. Texture wise, it feels like a soft paste that melts into the skin like the most luxurious butter. It’s richly moisturizing and leave the skin soft as silk as its namesake implies. As you can expect with all H products, the scent is INCREDIBLE and cocoons the skin with rich notes of vanilla and honey. The scent is reminiscent of another product I love, OKOKO Cosmetiques Sublime Balm, so if you love the scent of that product you will certainly love KINU.
KINU exclusively launched with Boxwalla, so you won’t find it in stores anywhere else at this time! Grab it in an October beauty box while you can, considering the cost of the box is well below the price tag of Kinu. Amazing value!
Ingredients: Jojoba Oil*, Coconut Oil*, Olive Oil*, Beeswax, Kalahari Melon Seed Oil•, Mixed Tocopherols (Non-GMO Vitamin E), Rosehip Seed CO2, Essential Oils of: Grapefruit*, Cedarwood*, Vanilla CO2, Bergamot*, Rosemary Antioxidant CO2*, Clove*, Natural Mica.
RAPHA Harmonizing Oil Cleanser
1 fl oz, $22 value
“This is a gorgeous facial oil cleanser with healing in-house infusions of chamomile and calendula as well as anti-inflammatory CO2 extractions of German Chamomile and Turmeric. The German chamomile plant and especially the flowers contain a powerful, active compound called Matricine and the CO2 extraction process is able to preserve this wonderful active in the resulting oil. Matricine is a precursor to chamazulene and is incredibly healing and anti-inflammatory, more so than even chamazulene. A must for a healing, pleasurable massage & cleansing experience.”
This isn’t my first time to meet Rapha! I thankfully was able to sample this many a time last year and with no exaggeration this is among my top 3 favorite oil cleansers of all time. I’m supremely disappointed in myself for not buying a full-size bottle already, but such is life as a beauty addict that wants to try everything!
Rapha, in its forest-green glory, is a healing oil cleanser designed to communicate with the skin on a cellular level. This powerful herbal infusion gives the skin “a pathway to health and framework for vitality” by providing our skin’s foundation with the ultimate cleanse. Expect a rich herbal blend filled with linoleic acids (great for ALL skin types, especially acne-prone), castor bean oil (purges the pores; stimulates blood flow), German chamomile (highly anti-inflammatory; gives Rapha its warm scent), turmeric co2 (antioxidant; anti-inflammatory), anti-bacterial essential oils, and more. Rapha is a proper, non-emulsifying cleansing oil.
I ultimately judge a cleansing oil by its ability to purge gunk from my pores and Rapha excels at this job. Before I even begin a full massage, it pulls the “grits” from my pores with ease, leaving my pores and overall skin so clean, plump, and full of health. Not to mention the aromatherapy benefits from the chamomile ingredients – a full massage session with Rapha is SO satisfying. As Bee recommends: After your massage, steam your face with a warm damp washcloth for ~10 seconds before wiping down. I highly recommend to pair Rapha with H’s handmade, organic cotton Cleansing Cloths.
Ingredients: Olive Oil*, Hemp Seed Oil*, Pumpkin Seed Oil*, Castor Bean Oil*, Mixed Tocopherols (Non-GMO Vitamin E), Chamomile*, Calendula*, Essential Oils Of: Roman Chamomile*, Lemon*, German Chamomile CO2*, Frankincense*, Rosemary Antioxidant CO2*, Turmeric CO2*, Lavender*
PROPOLIS Regenerative Face Mask
.85 oz, $10 value
“A potent mask that contains precious ingredients like rare, skin-brightening white turmeric, vitamin c rich camu camu , antioxidant-filled raw cacao and vanilla bean, French green clay, red alea sea salt that’s chock full of minerals & more! Whimsically named for its ability to stimulate cell renewal and boost collagen production, this mask is magic.”
I’ve also had the pleasure of trying Propolis before and I express the same regret in not buying a full-size jar!
Propolis is a clay-based mask complete with antioxidants and stimulating spices to promote skin cell renewal. “Regenerative” couldn’t be a more apt name for this mask. Any mask with make your skin feel soft and smooth, that’s a given, but Propolis literally changes the appearance of your skin in a matter of minutes. After a mask session, my skin is visibly brightened and full of life with a healthy pink complexion and glow. This is much in part due to the warming spices that stimulate blood flow and the skin brightening ingredients of camu camu and turmeric. Red alaea sea salt provides gentle physical exfoliation while the clay base purifies and rejuvenates the skin. I will say the mask has a stronger tingle compared to the first time I sampled it, but it only initially feels strong for about a minute, and subsides to feeling like comfortable warmth. Note: it doesn’t actually contain propolis (the resin that bees make) but rather it is named after the benefits that propolis provides. The scent: earthy, spicey, a hint of cacao. It’s intoxicating.
Ingredients: French Green Clay, Kaolin Clay, Camu Camu*, Poolan Kilangu (White Turmeric), Raw Cacao*, Vanilla Bean*, Sweet Cinnamon*, Clove*, Red Alaea Salt*, Orange Peel*, Essential oil of: Frankincense
My word, I wish Lavanya and Bee could team up for a new box every month! They’ve also teamed up to create a sweet playlist for us all to enjoy and incorporate into our H rituals.
